County Land and Water Conservation Departments were created to provide local leadership in carrying out programs that conserve Wisconsin's land and water resources. Working closely with the Land and Water Conservation Committees, they are the primary local delivery system of natural resource conservation programs. Their connection to county government gives them an understanding of local land and water resource problems and solutions.
The Vilas County Land and Water Conservation Committee / Department provides educational outreach and technical assistance to the public on land and water resource management issues including lake and stream conservation, erosion control, groundwater protection, forest and wildlife management, restoration activities, farmland preservation, water quality, and capacity-building of local elected officials, citizens, and others involved with conserving county natural resources.
